The Hoosac Valley Regional School District (HVRSD) has called a special district meeting to address the Fiscal Year 2025 School District budget. The meeting will be held on Monday, September 30, 2024 at 6:30PM in the auditorium of Hoosac Valley Middle/High School, located at 125 Savoy Road in Cheshire. The meeting is open to all registered voters in the Towns of Adams and Cheshire.
You may register to vote during the regular Town Clerk office hours and a Voter Registration session will be held on Friday, September 20, 2024 from 9AM - 5PM in the Town Clerk office located at the Cheshire Town Offices/Community House, 191 Church Street. September 20th is the last day for residents to register to vote in the special district meeting.
The Town of Cheshire voted (71 – Yes, 42 - No) at the Annual Town Meeting held on June 10, 2024 to hold a Special Election to support the school budget with a Proposition 2 ½ override in the amount of $150,534. On August 12, 2024 the Town voted (141- Yes, 355- No) to deny the override request and on the same evening of August 12, 2024, Special Town Meeting voted (47- Yes, 20-No) to decline the HVRSD budget as submitted.
In response to the Cheshire election and meeting results, the special district meeting will address the Fiscal Year 2025 HVRSD Budget. If the vote passes, the Town of Cheshire will need to utilize $150,534 of reserves to fund the school budget. If the vote fails, the HVRSD School Committee will need to reevaluate and present another budget to the voters.
