Transfer Station Notice
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE HELP US MAINTAIN THE COST OF THE TRANSFER STATION
ONLY HOUSEHOLD WASTE IS ALLOWED IN THE COMPACTOR
Household Waste - Up to 33-gallon bags require THREE (3) bag tags. Household waste, is refuse generated from everyday activities in homes, includes food scraps (though please consider composting), packaging and other materials that are no longer needed.
The Town of Cheshire has the most hauling expenses for Household Waste in the Northern Berkshire Solid Waste Management District.
DEMO
Bulky Waste (Demo)- Bulky waste is any material or item that does not fit in regular bin (chairs, tables, lamps, appliances, broken toys, carpets). The attendants are required to charge for all items being disposed of in the DEMO bin. The minimum cost is $1, all other items not listed in the FY26 brochure are at the discretion of the attendant.
FOOD COMPOSTING AND RECYCLING
Food Composting is a great way to reduce the amount of weight in Household Waste and reduces the amount of methane gas (a potent greenhouse gas) in our landfills. The Town has contracted with Tommy’s Compost Service, please speak to your attendants to learn more about how to keep food waste from Household Waste.
Recycling is MANDATORY in the State of Massachusetts; GLASS Containers are also a heavy item that should not be thrown into your Household Waste. Please throw your glass and plastic in the Co-Mingle Recycling Bins. Cans should be placed in the blue hopper, which is placed in the metal bin, the Town does receive revenue for the metal bin.
Questions should be directed to your Transfer Station Attendants or the DPW Director
